RESIDUI DI MEDICINALI VETERINARI E ALTRE SOSTANZE NEGLI ANIMALI VIVI E NEI PRODOTTI ANIMALI NEL 2022: DATI EUROPEI ED ITALIANI A CONFRONTO

The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has published the European report on data from the monitoring of residues of veterinary medicinal products and other substances in live animals and animal products in the context of official controls.

In 2022, all 27 Member States of the European Union, Iceland, Norway and Northern Ireland reported the results of 342,850 targeted samples and 3,892 suspicious samples. Regarding the results of targeted samples, non-compliance stood at 0.27% . The overall non-compliance figure, however, also considering suspicious samples, was 0.18%, a slight increase compared to 2021 (0.17%), but still comparable to those of the last 13 years (0.17%-0.37%).

Compared to the results of the four-year period 2017-2021, in 2022 the non-compliances of the targeted samples decreased for antithyroid agents. For steroids and resorcilic acid lactones, however, the frequency of non-compliant results was higher than in the two-year period 2020-2021, but lower than in previous years.

For prohibited substances, compared to 2021, non-conformities in 2022 were lower, but in line with those of 2020.

In  Italy , in implementation of the National Plan for the research of Residues,  28,427 samples were analyzed  (equal to 8.29% of all samples analyzed in the EU). Of these, 19 samples were found to be  irregular  due to the presence of residues (equal to  0.07% ). The percentages of positivity found in the Italian samples are lower than those calculated on the average of the European countries.

All data from the report are available, broken down by Member State, on  an online platform managed by EFSA. This support, in addition to improving the transparency and reproducibility of scientific evidence in the assessment of risks for food and feed safety, makes detailed and interactive consultation of data possible. Positive results for anthelmintics have decreased compared to all previous years
